KUSILE TRAINING ASSIGNMENT
Current status of Kusile construction site.
Boiler training for engineers (2 groups) and plant personnel (1 operations group, 1 maintenance group) of the Kusile power plant on behalf of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Africa Pty. Ltd. Training location: Kusile, South Africa
The course was subdivided into two weeks of basic training (1 week of thermodynamics, 1 week of control engineering technology), six weeks of specific boiler component training and two weeks of practical operations training.
This training is principally designed for four groups (2 x 2 groups training in parallel) with special modifications made for the maintenance group. In addition, KWS uses the Kusile power plant’s simulator to train the operators group in the special topic of boilers.
The course is conducted in English.
For this, power plant-specific English-language instruction materials are compiled in advance.
The power plant is owned and operated by Eskom, a South African energy provider.
In 2010/2011, KWS conducted similar training designed for the company’s Medupi power plant. The current assignment dates back to this period, but due to delays in the plant’s construction, the Kusile training project could not commence before the 2016/2017 period.
KWS is looking forward to an assignment comprising a total of 32 weeks of training with an estimated 60 participants.
The power plant consists of six hard coal-fired block units with 800 megawatts of electrical capacity each and air condensers.
